Author Guidelines

 

 

Submission Check List

Cover Letter: Authors are requested to submit a cover letter regarding the manuscript.

Main Manuscript: Submit as a single file either in MS Word or PDF file format including all figures and tables inserted at appropriate places in the text.

Supporting Information: All supporting data related to the manuscript must limit the file size to be not more than 10MB and the authors must include a short description of the supporting information files in the main manuscript.

Data for Review-only: Any other relevant information associated with the manuscript data must be submitted as ‘Review-only’ material (previous reports, permission letters, related data etc.).

Referees: Authors are requested to suggest at least three referees with their contact details (full name, e-mail address, organization and country), however, please note that it is not mandatory.

BIO-GENETICS is an international open access bi-monthly journal that covers all aspects of latest research in genetics.

Manuscripts can be submitted via online submission system. All submissions are peer-reviewed and the authors will be intimated on the status wihtin 3 weeks.

A cover letter addressing to the editor-in-chief should be sent along with the manuscript. It should include corresponding author’s complete address, affiliations and contact details with text specifying the significance of the work.

A statement implying that ‘the work submitted to the journal has not been published before and that it is not under consideration for publication in any journal’ should be written in the cover letter.

The authors are requested to suggest 2 or 3 potential reviewers in the subject.

 

MANUSCRIPT PREPARATION

A submission check list is available to help authors for relevant data and information.

File Formats
 Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx)
 Portable Document Format (.pdf)

General Formatting
■  Document should be single-column text without manual hyphenating at line breaks
■  Use double line spacing throughout the manuscript.
■  Font type should be Arial 10pt
■  Use “symbol” font type for greek/special characters
■  Numbers, either at the beginning of the paragraph or within the text should be elaborated, if it is less than ten

Figures
■  GIF, JPEG or TIFF
■  Resolution should be atleast 200 pixels/inch.
■  Attach figures as separate files as well as embed in the manuscript.

 

Research Papers

Manuscripts submitted to the Bio-Genetics Journal as full length research papers should be formatted as given below:

■  Acknowledgements, if any

Title
The title should be clear, short and informative. As far as possible, abbreviations should be avoided. If used, the name should be first indicated in full; followed by the short form.

Authors Names and Affiliations
Provide names of all authors who have made substantial contributions to the work with their first name and last (family) name and designate the corresponding author with an asterisk. Below this, the complete institutional address should be given. Arabic numerals should precede the address and place them as superscript after the respective author’s name.

Running title
A running title is mandatory and should not exceed 50 characters and spaces.

Abstract
The abstract should not exceed 350 words. The abstract should not be structured and clearly describe the major findings reported in the manuscript. Avoid using citations or references in the abstract. Standard abbreviations such as ATP or DNA need not be defined; however, a list of non-standard abbreviations is encouraged and should be elaborated in parentheses the first time it is used in the text.


KeyWords
Authors are requested to provide 3 to 6 keywords separated by a semicolon that will provide indexing references to the article.


Introduction
The introduction should outline the background of the research, purpose, significance and should include the rationale of the work being reported.


Materials and Methods 
Authors should describe the experimental methods employed in the work in sufficient detail. Use of subheadings is encouraged. The statistical method and level of significance, if any, should be stated clearly.


Results and Discussion 
Results and discussion should be clear and precise. The results should be explained with respect to the findings in authors’ experiments. Information provided in tables or figures should not be reiterated in the text. Include subheadings for proper explanation of results.


Conclusions 
Present the major interpretations and conclusions of the paper.


Tables
Tables should be kept to a minimum, inserted at appropriate places in the text and it should have only top header and bottom borders. Each table should be numbered consecutively in Arabic numerals and supplied with a heading on the top of the table (For example, Table 1: Heading...).

Figures
Figures should be of high resolution (300dpi) and attach them as separate files either in GIF or JPEG formats  or embed at appropriate places in the text. Use Arabic numerals to designate figures (For example, Figure 1: Heading....). When referring figures in the text, authors are encouraged to cite them as Fig.1 and so on. Description of the figure should be given below each figure.

References
References should be numbered in square brackets (for example: [5], [7-9], [5, 13]) and listed at the end in the order of appearance in the text. Unpublished or submitted manuscripts should not be included in the reference list. When there are more than three authors, then the three author’s name should be mentioned followed by ‘et al’. Journal names should be abbreviated according to Chemical Abstracts. Authors are fully responsible for the accuracy of the references.

Review Articles

These articles should showcase the developments in the field of study that appeared over the past few years. They may be divided under headings and subheadings.

 Less than 3000 words excluding the title page, abstract, references, tables and figure legends
 Tables and figures combined should not be more than 15 and
 no more than 70 references
Short Communication

Manuscripts under short communications are expected to describe novel, specialized and original research outcome. Preliminary data do not usually qualify, unless they are of exceptional quality, and utilize novel methodologies.

 Manuscripts should be less than 1500 words excluding title page, abstract, references, tables and figures
 Tables and figures combined should not be more than 2 and
 maximum 10 references

Proofs
Electronic proofs will be sent to the corresponding author as a PDF file. The journal reserves the right to make changes in the manuscript, but restricted only to the non-textual formatting contents of the article to suit the quality of the journal.

Copyright
Authors are requested to download and send the filled Copyright form after manuscript acceptance.
